USA depends on H1B visa and all types of visas. Not us. We have options and we can live in home country if we do not have options here. Without these visas USA will not survive.
Just think if CHINA boycotts exports to USA what will happen here? People cannot eat GUNS and live with GUNS. Computers will not help produce Eatables. Only people can grow vegetables and produce in lands. For that Americans are not ready to go to Farm and Work. So you need Z and all types of VISAs. Of course people choose USA since DOLLAR Is more when converted to home currency. Otherwise what is the use of coming here?
We are not Beggars. These people here are beggars who are dependent on foreign labor.
guys and gals,
Cool down. Remember we are foreigners in this country. We need this country more than they need us ( as they say, graveyards are full of indispensable people!). A country is not considered advanced by the cell phone models people use, but rather than how much food they produce, what is the standard of living, how many noble laureates it produces per year, etc.
Besides, in my 7-8 years living in this country, first as a student and then as H1 worker, never once have I felt being treated differently because I am a foreigner or look different.
Now compare that to living in Europe (you will be treated as dirt as soon as you enter airport), it is racist, living in past and full of bureaucracy.
As for India, mera bharat mahan, but I remember a time when I had to pay bribe on the train ticket counter to get a measly 2nd class sleeper ticket, or just to get a electric connection, would dare not get near a policeman, etc. etc.. The list is long and I suppose I everyone here knows what I am talking about.
So please ask for your rights but remember you are in their country, nobody forced you to come here, and beggars can't be choosers.

Good.
The govt. had announced something : http://www.dhs.gov/xnews/releases/pr_1186757867585.shtm
See item (22) .
May be ask Mr.Chertoff , "Sir, what is the status on your annoucement".
I hope what that news release means is more than what is described in this article:
http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-citizenship10sep10,1,5647808.story?page=1&ctrack=2&cset=true
In his yearly report to Congress in June, immigration services ombudsman Prakash wrote that the policy on checking names "may increase the risk to national security by extending the time a potential criminal or terrorist remains in the country." questioned the overall value of the process, writing that it was the "single biggest obstacle to the timely and efficient delivery of immigration benefits."
The Department of Homeland Security has acknowledged the threat, last month announcing plans to work with the FBI to address the backlog and reduce delays. Citizenship and Immigration Services will reassess the way name checks are done and earmark $6 million toward streamlining the process, Bentley said. [note: Chris Bentley is a USCIS spokesman.]
...
In addition to clearing the backlog and processing the 27,000 new name checks it receives each week from immigration officials, the FBI is trying to accelerate the process by making more documents electronic. It is also adding more staff and moving resources to a new records facility in Virginia, Carter said. [note: Bill Carter is a FBI spokesman.]
What we really need is something like what they had to do to clear the US passport backlog -- aggressive hiring and reallocation of resources to remove the backlog + reassessment of the value of examining reference files. Not a replay of the DOL BEC story OR the continuation of the current Kafka-esque situation albeit with few pieces of duct tape to show the press.
I hope IV is making this clear in all meetings. $6M worth of changes are not going to fix the problem.

EB3-I is the worst affected category and nobody even wants to talk about it.
I have been separated from my wife for 2 years and now I am going back and work in India.
I hope Media knows about this reverse brain drain that is reality and actually happening around here.
Thanks.

Thanks to everyone who has participated and had been participating in Call Campaign Phases I and II. Here comes our next phase - Phase 3.
For phase 3 of our campaign we need to call the Representatives listed below to seek support for bills HR 5882, HR 5921 & HR 6039 from republican congressmen/congresswomen in our area. This is a very critical Action Item and we at least need to make 300 phone calls to be heard. We only have six representatives to contact this time and We can do this.
Please use the instructions provided below to make the phone calls.
(1) Call the congressman/woman office and request to speak with the aide who handles Legislative and Immigration matters
2) If they are not available leave a VM for them
I would like Representative "Representative Name" to co sponsor bills
HR 6039 & HR 5882, HR 5921. All the three bills have wide bipartisan
support in the house and will help improve American competitiveness &
reduce the back logs associated with USCIS. All these bills are non
controversial measures that will help US to stay competitive with a
highly educated and skilled work force
(3) As usual Do NOT get into the CIR issue or illegal Immigration. If
the aide is confusing with CIR or illegal immigration, just tell them
that these are legal immigration bills.
(4) If the aide asks whether you belong to the district or not, tell
them NO if you don't. Mention to them that you already spoke with
your representative and would like the congressman/congresswoman
support.
Here is the list of representatives to contact:
Mary Bono – California 45'th District
D.C Office Ph: 202-225-5330
Brian Bilbray – California 50'th District
Ph: 202-225-0508
Ken Calvert – California 44'th District
Ph: 202-225-1986
Jerry Lewis – California 41'st District
Ph: 202-225-5861
John Campbell – California 48'th District
Ph: 202-225-5611
Gary Miller – California 42'nd District
Ph: 202-225-3201
This Campaign has been kicked off for the California IV Group a couple of days ago. A few members of Cal. IV have been in touch with the offices listed above past week. We need more people to make the
calls and build momentum. Let us get going on this Action Item. Together, We can do this

Hi All
Where u take SBI or ICICI they will not tell you the date on which the actually transaction was taken place. Yes its right that they keep money with them for 2-3 days and remit only when they see that exchange rate will increase.
I have used both, in my personal opinion SBI offers good rate than ICICI.
Again, this may be not correct because we don't know the time they update their web site to reflect the current exchange rate.

Attack my ideas and not me. Then we can have a debate conducive to achieving our goals.
Anand, there is a conference call scheduled this Friday. Pls join the conference call and pour in your ideas. Sure if your ideas are good and conceivable Core team would defly work on implementing it. Dont be an outsider, try to get more involved. Again if you want to be part of the Core Let Aman & Co know, they should be able to delegate you some responsibilites.
Just like you, everybody is frustrated with the lack of progress. But we do understand our limitations, we can only educate the lawmakers with our issues, but we cant arm twist them to do something favorable. We have to keep our expectations right. As Logiclife told if big corporations like Microsoft cant achieve what they, want who are we? Does this mean we shld quit and resign our fate. Live another day, Fight another day till we achieve what we want.
I contribute, i participate in the calls, i write to the reporters, i send faxes and emails to Senators/House Reps, Appear in Newspaper & Radio interviews and most of all Spare a Prayer to God to improve my situation. That is all i can do and if every one of us does what is needed sure something positive will happen. I am not a CORE member, just an ordinary member like YOU.

The first one on the list. I assumed MRN stood for Moron. (The most of the other encouraging ones were not there when I made that post). Maybe abusive was too strong a word to describe that remark.
But I appreciate your response and restoring my faith in IV !!!
Thanks Lasantha for all your help. Even after getting your green card you continue to participate and help others in this struggle. That is Great. For the sake of disclosure here are some of the messages you left for other members. I think that these messages are extremely abusive and very harsh as compared to the message left for you. Although we do not encourage the use of words like moron, stupid, idiot, we see these words being used often on the forum.

Oath of Allegiance
The oath of allegiance is:
"I hereby declare, on oath, that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen; that I will support and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I will bear arms on behalf of the United States when required by the law; that I will perform noncombatant service in the Armed Forces of the United States when required by the law; that I will perform work of national importance under civilian direction when required by the law; and that I take this obligation freely without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; so help me God."
In some cases, USCIS allows the oath to be taken without the clauses:
". . .that I will bear arms on behalf of the United States when required by law; that I will perform noncombatant service in the Armed Forces of the United States when required by law. . ."
Question: Once one takes US citizenship s/he promises to renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate or state then how come one confidently say that s/he would still be in love to a home country?

It seems that some of us want to fight, but don't have a dedicated thread. Instead we have been hijacking other useful threads.
What I propose here is a FIGHT THREAD.
Yes, this is a copycat idea from FIGHT CLUB
How we go about:
1.) Establish a dedicated thread - just for fighting.
2.) At a pre-determined time (of day or night), fighters login.
3.) They start fighting and all posts/fights will be restricted to FIGHT THREAD only.
4.) Fight ends at a specificed time.
5.) Fighters take a break until the next schedule (may be daily or thrice a week)
6.) Fighters donot desecrate other threads, if they do, they will be banned from FIGHT THREAD.
how's the idea :D?
HILARIOUS. Except, the last point should be, "They will be banned from all other threads except fight :D "

I remember that night....since then I lost my 2004 PD, had many hopes dashed, got laid off and so on...but still here, Enjoy your Green!
"I've spent so long waiting I even get nostalgic about the early days. I remember very well, blogging one cold December night on Immigrationportal with Wallenpond, Pdakwala, Superman,Khodalmd and many other early IV luminaries in 2005 putting up a rearguard uncoordinated effort, when Rep. Sensenbrenner scuttled our visa recapture chances in conference committee. Following which IV was born with leadership from folks well known to us now. IV is your organisation and platform. It will only be as strong as you let it be. "
Bluekayal,
Sorry to hear about your loss of PD etc. However, the fact that you survived and still hanging in there shows you will prevail. On an optimistic note, the recently released USCIS data seem to suggest that their PD movement is more data driven this time and getting to your newer Eb2 PD, while it will still take time, may not be as long as previously thought especially in this economy with fewer applicants in general. I was pleasantly surprised to see them maintain EB2I cut off dates into Nov. If they set dates anything close to sensibly, they should never need to retrogress by many months or years like in the past. The article about low workloads at NSC recently was quite revealing. Whatever they say now, spillover will be substantial this year end in my view. Since they have finally since last year started to interpret spillover rules the way they were meant to be used, I think EB2I will be the primary beneficiary.
I would however have the following advice for you, in the interim while you are waiting, keep on them, follow up every RFE after you respond, follow every fingerprint with a phone call, get familiar with your congressman/womans immigration aide, open a service request if you are eligible to do so. In general get your case organised as much as possible before. If you get information that you were pre approved, that would be useful, but even then keep on them as soon as your PD is current. In general with the USCIS, assume they will make an error, if you can conceive that they will make one and sometimes even when you can't imagine how. I can certainly tell you they are not well organised.
Good luck.

Most immigrants apply for citizenship in developed countries for the sheer luxury of visa free travel to most countries and to bring their spouse/families closer to them without any immigration hassles. It has got nothing to do with renouncing all the ties with their home countries.
I know a friend who recently became a Canadian citizen and he said that he was murmuring a Hindi film song when the Canadian national anthem was played during the oath ceremony. The only reason he immigrated to Canada was to get a Canadian passport so that he can work in US and travel around the world without visa hassles.
I also have a friend whos a US citizen and he was able to get his newly wed wife into US in 3 months. He visits India regularly to take care of his property investments, watches cricket/desi movies, loves eating food at the road side eateries and by all means hes still an Indian at heart.
Citizenship is like getting an unlimited credit our existing credit card (GC). The more the limit the more flexibility we get. So lets avoid bringing patriotic fervor into such posts.

Positive or negative we need to know what is going on out there, this visa deal has made me a geek (no offence), I watch CSPAN when Monday night football is on.

We need to cut all the negativity here on this forum and focus on things where we can actually make a difference in intellectual argumentative way.
It is absolutely useless at this point to predict the visa bulletins when we have a fair idea that there is about 3 or so years worth of backlog for EB2 and possibly much more for EB3.
This article shows a lot of research and thought process has gone into its making.
Great Job!

I realize that there is no point in telling you guys anything. When you don't have an open mind, you can not accept the facts. It's like banging your heads against steel wall. When you are not even ready to diagnose the disease, there is little hope you will be able to cure it. Denial is a beautiful thing.
So I apologize for my comments.
Here is something you will love:
Congratulations IV and the core team! Keep up the good work.
Show some Courage Dude. Take up a role in your state chapter, go meet the lawmaker, Educate them on the difficulties we face, write to the reporters & highlight our issues. Contact the Core and ask for responsibilities. I am sure the Core would be happy to delegate some of the responsibilities to you.
Why dont you do all of this, before criticizing everyone who is involved in the noble effort?

If the current wage is consitently higher than proferred for past 2 or 3 years, is that good enough to prove the ability to pay?
