READY Emerges First BLOCKBUSTER Of 2011

Ready has emerged the first blockbuster of 2011 with amazing business on weekdays after a bumper weekend. The B.O collections of Monday was 8.05 cr and the final figure for Tuesday was about 7.15 crore nett approx and Wednesday again looks over 6 crore nett as per early estimates.

Break Up - Fri 13.28 cr, Sat 12.66 cr, Sun 16.22 cr. Weekend Total: 42.75 Cr

Monday 8.05 cr, Tuesday 7.15 cr. 5 day Total: 57.36 cr

The business of Ready so far is around 64 crore nett and the 1st week is likely to end at around 70 crore nett. The falls on the weekdays are just 10% daily with some circuits even less. There are places like West Bengal, Mysore and Tamil Nadu/Kerala which are not as strong as the rest but as the bigger circuits are so strong it does not make much difference to the overall picture. Delhi/UP is extraordinary as it heads for a week of 16 crore nett approx.

Ready may well cross the lifetime nett business of Ghajini by the end of its run. The distributor share of Ghajini will definitely be crossed as Ready is likely to finish with an all India distributor share of 60-65 crore.

This will make Ready the third biggest earner ever in terms of all India distributor share after Three Idiots and Dabangg. Also in the domestic market it will be the fourth biggest hit of Salman Khan's career after Hum Aapke Hain Kaun, Maine Pyaar Kiya and Dabangg. It is also the biggest hit of Anees Bazmee's career as director beating some huge hits in the form of Welcome, No Entry and Singh Is Kinng.

First Weekend Box Office Collections of Ready - 42.75 Cr, Second Highest Ever

Ready has set the box office on fire over its first weekend with a fantastic opening, grossing around 43 crore over the opening weekend. It has emerged the second biggest opener ever after Dabangg - Second highest opening weekend ever and the biggest non holiday weekend surpassing the biggest non holiday weekend of Raajneeti by a huge 20% plus margin.

Break Up - Fri 13.28 cr, Sat 12.66 cr, Sun 16.22 cr. Total: 42.75 Cr

Update: Ready Box office collections on Monday 8.05 cr, Tuesday 7.15 cr.

5 day Total of Ready: 57.36 cr

Monday is rock-steady; the morning and noon shows being 70% to 90% of friday numbers, which is fantastic.

The Top 5 openers are as follows:-

DABANGG - 49 cr,
READY - 42.75 cr,
3 IDIOTS - 40 cr,
TEES MAAR KHAN - 38 cr,
GOLMAAL 3 - 36 cr

The film has under performed slightly in West Bengal and Mysore but elsewhere collections are very strong be it multiplexes or single screens. Saturday had a noticeable drop at places but it was where opening was phenomenal and where the opening was a bit less the film held up. Infact in Mysore and West Bengal where it had lowest opening, business on Saturday was up. Sunday was strong across the board.

The film is a huge winner and the biggest hit of the year and it is the weekdays that will decide whether it can become a Blockbuster, which looks highly likely going by the strong monday collections that are coming in.

Ready is likely to do a distributor share of anything between 40-60 crore so its a solid Hit, if the share gets around the 50 crore mark then it will be a Super Hit. Blockbuster business at around 60 crore share possible if Monday collections come out to be 8-9 crore.

READY Movie Review - Ready is Tremendously Entertaining.

So are you ready for the first biggie of the season? Who isn't, actually? Love him, loathe him, but you can't overlook him. Salman Khan is, without doubt, the sweetheart of the masses. No two opinions on that!

Ready Movie Poster

But here's a word of caution. READY is NOT for the rigid detractors or counterfeit scholars of Hindi cinema who masquerade as messiah of meaningful cinema. They rebuke masala films, ridicule big stars, detest anything and everything associated with 'commercial cinema' -- a genre cherished by a wide majority of audiences. They wrote off DABANGG [which recently won the coveted National Award], pulled down the super entertainer GOLMAAL 3, scoffed at YAMLA PAGLA DEEWANA [the biggest hit of 2011 so far], even panned the iconic 3 IDIOTS [which ranks as the biggest grosser of Hindi cinema], but these films had the mandate of the junta and that's what matters eventually. Isn't it?

Remake of a Telugu hit, READY is a traditional, Southern-flavored family drama that we thought had gone out of vogue in the 1980s. But let's not forget that ingeniously crafted masala entertainers remain the first choice of an average Indian moviegoer to this day. And READY serves the same dish with a fresh tadka. Pack in humor, stir some peppy music ['Character Dheela' and 'Dhinka Chika'] and add the star power of Salman... the outcome is one delicious, scrumptious, yummy dish called READY.

In fact, READY re-invents the much revered formula in contemporary idiom. Plot-wise, there's not much to talk about, you may call it behind the times, but it's a vehicle that showcases the star charisma and magnetism of Salman and the actor hits the bull's eye yet again. He has a ball on screen and makes sure the viewer joins the festivity as well.

READY is a full-on entertainer, a paisa vasool film that has just one motive -- entertainment -- and it succeeds in its endeavor absolutely. This is a Salman show all the way and even those who don't hero-worship him will be forced to admit that like WANTED and DABANGG, Salman's dynamic presence and powerhouse performance translates into great entertainment. He's comical, wicked, aggressive, besides larger than life and yet warm and real.

As a film, READY is one of the easiest watches of our times. It transports you to a world that's dreamlike. It packs one gimmick after another. Also, the dialogues are totally mass appealing; they are simply mazedaar -- humorous and impactful, both at the same time. Frankly, it's a film that guarantees ceetees, taalis and cheers aplenty. It's a film that lets you into its world without hesitation and gives you a thoroughly entertaining time during your two-hour visit.

Final word? If you are ready to discard logic and rationale and have a good time at the movies, if you consider yourself being a part of the mob, then READY would be the right experience for you. Go on people, go enjoy your annual dose of Salman Khan. The star performer plays to the gallery from start to finish. READY is outlandish and bizarre, but it's tremendously entertaining.

Prem [Salman Khan] lives with his father [Mahesh Manjrekar] and two uncles [Manoj Joshi, Manoj Pahwa]. Sanjana [Asin], an orphan, lands in India to be with her mamas [Sharat Saxena, Akhilendra Mishra], who are greedy and want to usurp her property. Prem, who falls in love with Sanjana, decides to teach her mamas a lesson. Both the mamas, who are sworn enemies, want Sanjana to get married to their respective brothers-in-law, so that they can lay their hands on Sanjana's property. But Prem makes a fool of them by getting friendly with them and making his family pose as billionaires.

One of the uncles of Prem poses as the manager from the World Bank, who reveals to the mamas that Sanjana's father owed the bank millions of dollars. Either they sell their property or disown the girl. Circumstances prompt the mamas to accept Prem as the prospective husband of Sanjana. But Prem's game plan gets exposed on his wedding day.

READY is boisterous, crazy, wacky, irrational, comic book type, totally make-believe with the desi tadka of songs and dances. So those questioning its makers, Where's the story?, ought to shut up since the question is simply irrelevant. READY was never expected to have a ground-breaking story. The only thing it was supposed to have is Salman, Salman, more Salman... and only Salman. So just relax and savor the antics of Salman, who communicates with the viewer like never before. He knows the rules of the game and is a master at it.

READY may not boast of an inventive or pioneering story, but director Anees Bazmee packs loads of entertainment in those two hours. In fact, you hardly get time to ponder on anything else but the goings-on. Like I pointed out at the very outset, it's a wholesome entertainer, absolutely in sync with what one would've expected after one watched its first promo a few months ago.

Any flaws? Yes, the screenplay isn't gripping in the first hour. There are sequences that don't work, while a few do manage to make you laugh not because they are funny, but because they are extremely ludicrous and farcical. In fact, this movie celebrates bizarre conduct and kitsch, which may give an impression that the writing is outmoded and obsolete at places.

READY has the sort of music one would expect from an entertainer. Tracks have a larger-than-life feel and gel well with the content. The action sequences, not many though, are done in an enticing mix of masti and mayhem. Especially the chase in the end and the sequence when Salman shows off his exceptional physique - the viewers are sure to go into frenzy.

Salman Khan continues his super act with gusto. He's the soul of the film and the reason why READY works. Asin convinces in parts. At times you feel that she's got it right, but there are sequences where she looks ill at ease. Paresh Rawal is excellent and compliments Salman beautifully. I'd like to single out one more actor - funster Sudesh Lehri - who makes a solid impact. He's exceptional and brings the house down with his style of comedy.

The film has a number of actors in supporting roles and the ones who stand out are Akhilendra Mishra, Mahesh Manjrekar, Anooradha Patel and Sharat Saxena. Sanjay Dutt, Ajay Devgn, Kangna, Zarine Khan, Chunky Pandey and Arbaaz Khan appear in cameos.

On the whole, READY is strictly for the masses and for those who relish typically formulaic masala entertainers. The film prides itself with super music ['Character Dheela' and 'Dhinka Chika'], gags and gimmicks aplenty and of course, Salman Khan, the beloved of the masses and the mainstay of this film. If you hero-worship Salman, you cannot afford to miss this one. Even if you don't hero-worship him, watch READY as a stress-busting therapy that makes you smile, laugh and break into guffaws in those two hours.

Salman Khan's Ready Takes Mega Advance Booking At Single Screens

The advance of Ready opened at single screens and results were fantastic. All over India, it was a unanimous verdict from single screen exhibitors.

The advance at single screens matched that of Dabangg and even bettered it at places. There is no doubt that the single screen opening on Friday is going to be humungous. It will be either best or second best ever. The results at multiplexes will tell if the right buzz and hype has been created for the film. Multiplexes advance booking results will be known from wednesday.

As Ready is Salman's first release after Dabangg it will be compared to Dabangg even though Dabangg smashed all opening records by a distance.

Most in the trade seem to feel it will not have an opening weekend like Dabangg as the feeling is that promos are not as strong as Dabanng's. But Salman is there and two hit songs, the Friday could come up to match Dabangg. If the film has good content then the Dabangg weekend is definitely under threat.

Dhinka Chika Song Promo From Ready With Salman Khan and Asin

Dhinka Chika' is the new song from the movie Ready. After Wanted, Dabanng here comes the new dhinchak song of salman khan. Enjoy!

Dhinka Chika is an adaptation of Tamil hit Ringa Ringa

Salman Khan wants Ready to have a surefire hit track. He insisted on adapting Ringa Ringa (from hit Telugu flick Arya 2) and transformed it to Dhinka Chika for his upcoming Ready. Not just that, he was unhappy with the lyrics of the Hindi film's song and asked for them to be changed.

Salman Khan ordered a change for Ready's Dinka Chika lyrics... and reshot it too

Better words, please

A source reveals, "Salman rang up Bhushan Kumar saying the song needs new lyrics. In fact he refused to shoot the song until they came up with better words. Since they were on an outdoor shoot happening in Bangkok, the crew went ahead and shot the song nonetheless."

On returning to Mumbai, Khan sat with Devi Sri Prasad, the composer of the original Telugu track and came up with new lyrics. "He wants Dhinka Chika to be the song of 2011. It already has the potential to be a huge chartbuster. Hence Salman got new lyrics penned and re-recorded the whole song."

NOT JUST THE LYRICS Even Ready’s Dhinka Chika video was re-shot. This time at Film City...

Salman Khan and producer Bhushan Kumar are sparing no expense (or effort) to ensure that Ready gets the same adulation Dabangg did. Salman hasn’t simply got the lyrics changed for the track Dhinka Chika, he has re- shot the song as well!

A GRAB FROM THE ORIGINAL VIDEO OF DHINKA CHIKA SHOT IN BANGKOK...

...AND THE RE-SHOT VERSION OF DHINKA CHIKA SHOT IN FILMCITY

Not enough

Salman has been sitting with Bhushan every day, chalking out steps on how to improve every bit of the film. Dhinka Chika was originally shot in the streets of Bangkok with Salman, Asin and dancers in the background.

However when Bhushan, Salman and the creative team of Ready sat and watched Dhinka Chika in Mumbai, they were appalled. Incidentally, Dabangg also re-shot two songs, one of which was Tere Mast Mast Do Nain.

Random places

"The team felt that a song that had the potential to be a chartbuster couldn’t be shot at random locations. They put up a set against a festive carnival-like atmosphere in Film City and re-shot the song. The music video has been directed by Sumit Dutt and the dance choreographed by Mudassar Khan.” Says Kumar, “ Yes, we reshot Dhinka Chika as the whole team felt that the visuals didn’t suit the song. When we are doing it for the betterment of the film, cost is no factor. Bhai (Salman) told me that we should do something different.”

Gimme value!

Adds the producer, “He says songs should be extraordinary as people get attached to them. Without terrific visuals attached, there is no value to the film. So Ready, which is made at Rs 55 crore, can reshoot a song costing Rs 2- 3 crore to enhance its quality. In Bangkok, we shot at live locations without any concept locations with just Salman, Asin and the dancers. This is the first song we shot but somehow the visual impact was missing. We constructed a set in Film City with a very bright, colourful, festive atmosphere.”

Box Office: 'Ready' Has Biggest First Friday At The Box Office For Non-Festive Period Release

While '3 Idiots' & 'Tees MK' were Christmas releases & 'Dabangg' was an Eid release, 'Ready' should be the BIGGEST Box office openner ever for a non-festive period release. READY 1st Friday box office collections should be about Rs 13.5 crore, which makes it the No. 2 opener of all time, after Salman's own DABANGG.

Salman Khan is competing with himself. His DABANGG set new records last year in its opening weekend and READY is expected to give a tough fight to that film, as far as the week end box office numbers are concerned. The opening day figures have started pouring in and as per initial trends, READY is expected to surpass the first day business of 3 IDIOTS [Rs 13 cr] and TEES MAAR KHAN [Rs 12.75 cr] and gross about 13.5 cr.

First Day First Show Audience Reaction To READY

While READY is much ahead of 3 IDIOTS and TEES MAAR KHAN in several circuits like C.P., C.I. and Rajasthan, it's slightly behind DABANGG in these circuits. What's interesting is that 3 IDIOTS and TEES MAAR KHAN were released during Christmas and DABANGG during Eid, while READY has opened during non-festive period and if the numbers of READY are bigger and better than 3 IDIOTS and TEES MAAR KHAN, it's a super achievement. Ready will be the biggest opener ever for a non-festive period release.

The first actual circuit totals have come in for Ready - CP Berar, CI and Rajasthan have all recorded the second best first day totals ever at the box office, next only to Dabangg.

CI

Ready - 58.54 lakhs
Tees Maar Khan - 49 lakhs
Dabangg - 62 lakhs

Rajasthan

Ready - 78.12 lakhs
Tees Maar Khan - 75 lakhs
Dabangg - 80 lakhs

CP Berar

Ready - 82 lakhs
Tees Maar Khan - 69 lakhs
Dabangg - 89 lakhs

Top 5 opening Fridays:-

1. Dabangg 14.5 cr
2. Ready 13.5 cr (approx)
3. Three Idiots 13 cr
4. Tees Maar Khan 12.75 cr
5. Raajneeti 10.5 cr & Kites 10.5 cr.

Box Office Update For Ready - Mind Boggling Start at the B.O

READY strikes like hurricane, fetches mindboggling start at the box office

READY has had a wide release, with the distributors opening the film at practically every centre, big or small, where Hindi films get released. Looking at the hype and craze surrounding the film, the opening day, weekend and Week 1 numbers are expected to be earth-shattering. The morning shows were in the 80% range [at places, even 100%], but by 12 noon, the film was running to packed houses everywhere. Multiplexes as well as single screens.

The multiplexes opened bumper for Ready (Details >>) but single screens are even better. UP, Bihar, CP Berar, CI, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Saurashtra are simple mind boggling and practically 95-100% at most major screens in these areas. Surat, Rajkot, Lucknow, Kanpur, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Nagpur and Indore, all A centres had a phenomenal response at single screens.

The Mumbai multiplexes were not full this morning but they are never are due to spare capacity but single screens in Mumbai city opened to full houses. The West Bengal and Punjab single screens were not full at around 70-80%.

Delhi was strong as Liberty grossed 60,800 and Delite 16,660 both 100% for their 12.00 and 12.15 shows respectively.

As for comparisons with Dabangg which are inevitable, Dabangg was practically 95-100% across the board apart from places like Mumbai city which hardly ever open full. Ready has had a lower opening at some places but it has a bigger release which means potential to gross even with lower occupancies. Also the small centres like Dehri, Kehda, Jhabu, Sarni etc are not as strong as Dabangg possibly due to the action factor in Dabangg

Meanwhile, the Top 5 opening Fridays are as follows:-

DABANGG Rs 14.5 cr [Eid]
3 IDIOTS Rs 13 cr [Christmas]
TEES MAAR KHAN Rs 12.75 cr [Christmas]
RAAJNEETI Rs 10.5 cr
KITES Rs 10.5 cr

READY is expected to feature in this coveted list, for sure. Will it overpower DABANGG is to be seen.

Video: 'Character Dheela' Song Promo From Ready Starring Salman

Director Anees Bazmee and superstar Salman Khan say that the song 'Character Dheela' from their upcoming film 'Ready' is a tribute to legendary Bollywood actors - Raj Kapoor, Dilip Kumar and Dharmendra.

In the song Salman and Zarine will be seen paying tribute to these yesteryear actors of Hindi cinema. Both will play different hit movie pairs of the past. "We often use this word 'character dheela hai' in a negative way. We were trying to make it sound good. Eventually the song should look good and presentable. Personally, my character is less 'dheela' as you can see my average is very less...and I am 46-year-old," said Salman.

In one act, both will be seen playing Shahzada Saleem and Anarkali like Dilip Kumar and Madhubala in Mughal-e-Azam; in another act Salman and Zarine will be seen in the black and white era playing tribute to the showman Raj Kapoor along with Nargis. Yet another sequence will see the two recreate the magic of the 'Sholay' pair, Viru and Basanti on screen. "It is our way of paying tribute to Raj Saheb, Dilip Saheb and Dharamji. We are not one per cent close to their performances," Salman said.

The song has been choreographed by Mudassar Khan, who has previously choreographed Salman in 'Dabangg'. "I was an assistant to Raj Saheb in 'Prem Rog'. I respect him a lot. I am a huge fan of Dilip Saheb and Dharamji entertained us a lot. Salman and me love and respect them a lot. So he is in their get up," said director Anees.

Video: Theatrical Trailer of Ready.

Promos of Ready are out and what has caught instant attention is the sound of 'Dhinka Chika' which plays right through the duration of the theatrical trailer of Ready. Music lovers especially down South are referring to its obvious similarity to 'Ringa Ringa' which was heard in Allu Arjun's Telugu film Arya 2. Since the composer of Ready is Pritam, many were quick to scream 'It's a lift'. However the fact is that it was Salman influence at work as he wanted the song to be incorporated in Ready and the producers purchased the rights of the song.

"Bhai had caught fancy to this song and played it continuously in his vanity van during breaks", informs a source from the film's crew, "He found the overall attitude of the song pretty exciting and wanted to include it in one of his films. He informed Bhushan Kumar, head honcho of T-Series and also the co-producer of Ready about it and asked him to reach out to the song's original composer Devi Sri Prasad."

It wasn't tough to buy rights for the song and Prasad too was happy to create a Hindi version of 'Ringa Ringa' by making it 'Dhinka Chika'. Also, while the hook remained intact, the flavour was tweaked a little to address North Indian sensibilities.
